$5 of each Paco pin sale will be donated to #ShadeOutDM
The next pin in our Shade Out DM series is sweet Paco, a 15-year-old American Eskimo Dog (Eskie) who crossed the rainbow bridge after battling DM and cancer for nearly two years.
Paco has inspired so many people with his big personality, infectious smile and love for adventure that his #livelikepaco team won the most recent Shade Out DM race! We know we talk about Corgis a lot here, but if you’ve met an Eskie before, all of this social energy is not surprising!
According to the AKC, Eskies are social animals, incredibly friendly and insist on being part of family life. Did you know that Eskies have a history in the circus becoming popular while dancing to music and playing with clowns? An Eskie named Pierre who was with the circus became the first dog to walk across a tight rope!
Paco might not have walked on a tight rope but he had his fair share of adventures. He lived with his mom in 6 different states. He was in Mardi Gras parades, walked in political marches and went to a lot of ballgames. He had amazing adventures traveling all over the country trekking through canyons, hiking trails, kayaking, exploring slots canyons, boating through bayous, cruising around the redwoods, climbing a 14-er and even skiing in his wheelchair. His most favorite thing was chasing the neighbor’s chickens.
Paco and his mom didn’t let DM and cancer stop them. They kept having adventures spreading DM awareness and showing the world that a dog on wheels can still have amazing life. This is why so many were inspired to Live Like Paco and we hope you are too.
You can follow Paco on his IG account @pacokaz celebrating this beautiful boy. His mom Jen is currently doing the social media for @shadeoutdm and spends much of her time helping other DM parents with the care of their dogs.
As with the other #shadeoutdm pins, $5 of each pin will go directly to Shade Out DM, and they have chosen to use the proceeds to go into creating more pin designs!
Paco's legacy lives on as his memory is helping to spread awareness of this terrible disease. He will be forever loved and forever missed, but never forgotten. We will love your for always Paco.
Paco is 1.75 inches long with silver plating and two blue rubber backings.
What is DM? DM stands for Degenerative Myelopathy, which would be the canine version of ALS/LouGehrig's Disease. It affects over 100 dog breeds and is often misunderstood and misdiagnosed. Many people are unaware of this non-curable disease, so we want to spread awareness, as it CAN be prevented by genetic testing prior to breeding & making well educated
